Landscaping

This season's projects are all about landscaping...and there is plenty to go around at 12 1/2! The project list is long, and in looking at things realistically, it will take many seasons/years to get everything incorporated. Some of the landscaping projects include: plantings, grass, maybe some lighting, a walkway from the drive to the front door, and a retaining wall at the driveway - to name just a few. Since every rain event we end up getting more and more soil washout into the driveway, our first project will be to hold back the earth at the steep slopes around the driveway.

As far as walls go, especially in New England, nothing comes close to the beauty of a natural stone retaining wall. Of course, as a DIY project, this has high potential to quickly become a real disaster. Therefore, it was a really easy decision to hire this one out to a professional. After a bunch of interviews and bids, we have selected our contractor and construction has begun. Although, since June is apparently the new April (rain, rain, go away?), things have been progressing slowly.

Here are a few shots of the design I put together. FYI, I heart Sketchup!
